About us

Background

The Abu Bakr Mosque and Cultural Centre is a well known and established organisation registered as a charity under the name of the Muslim Federation Cleveland. The organisation was set up in 1989 and registered in 1990 under charity number 702212. Since its inception the Abu Bakr Mosque and Community Centre has been at the forefront of providing vital community services to various sections of the local ethnic and native communities in an around Middlesbrough.

The Centre is a real community hub, where all sections of the Muslim and non Muslim communities find their interests and needs met. From school visits, to social events, education, training, youth activities, and much more, the place is always busy and striving to provide the best possible services.

Religious welfare programme:

The Abu Bakr Mosque runs a diversified religious programme to meet the needs of all sections of the community. The Focus is on the following activities:

PRAYERS

Daily Prayers:

Congregational prayers at Fajr, Dohr, asr, Maghrib, and Ishaa times. Times change regularly and it is recommended to

Weeky Friday Prayer:

The Friday or Jumu’a prayer takes time throughout the year. The Khutba ( sermon ) starts at 1.00 pm sharp. The prayer

Ramadan prayers:

During the sacred month of Ramadan, the Mosque adopt the following programme :

Daily and weekly prayers remain unchanged except for Isha, Taraweeh, and Tahajud prayers:

Isha: Conducted about an hour after Iftar to give people the chance to brak their fast and make their journey to the Mosque.

Taraweeh: conducted after Isha and made up of 8 rakaats that last around an hour.

Tahajud: Conducted over the last ten days of Ramadan and are made up of 8 rakaats and start at midnight.

Lectures and Seminars:

The Mosque organises regular lectures to promote Islam and to get the community together for the purpose of spreading a community spirit based on respect and love of each other. Topics of the lectures vary according to the need and challenges.

Trustees

The board of trustees is made up of 4 legal representatives who are the authorised responsible persons for the Muslim Federation in Cleveland. They are also members of the management committee which manages the centre on the day to day basis. Link to photos
